Karrie Webb has a slow start at the Evian Masters
Karrie Webb, the Australian super golfer is off to a slow start at the Evian Masters. After the first round, she has scored 70 points. She is currently at the 17th position, which she shares with six other players.
Webb had a mediocre year so far, with no wins in any of the tournaments she has participated in. This has made her fans very uneasy and they are looking forward to the Evian Masters for Webb’s first win of the year.
Many experts point out that Webb has not been up to her usual standard of golf this year. She has posted just three top-10 finishes so far.
Given this performance, many of the commentators do not think that Webb has a reasonable chance of making it big at the Evian Masters.
Webb faces tough competition on her way to the top positions. Even to move to the 16th position, she has to face quality players such as Se Ri Pak and Azahara Munoz. Both these player have won major titles in the past and will give Webb a run
for her money.
Other players performed rather well in the first round. The top performer was Stacy Lewis, who shot nine birdies and finished the round with a score of 63.
Next on the list was the South Korean sensation, Hee Young Park, who also had a string of birdies to her credit.
This year’s Evian Masters is full of surprises. The hot favourites have not been able to post decent scores on the scoreboard, while the upcoming and relatively unknown players have managed to outperform the stars.
A look on the ranking table is enough to see that the Evian Masters still has a number of surprises for the fans. Lee-Anne Pace and Suzann Pettersen, two of the best golfers in the world are at number eight in the rankings.
Many fans are hopeful that this edition of Evian Masters will prove to be lucky for Karrie Webb. Winning this event will be a wonderful experience for the Australian player, as this is the last time for the Evian Masters to be played as a minor tournament
on the LPGA calendar.
