Karrie Webb hopes she is able to repeat her 2006 performance at Evian Masters 2012
The Evian Masters 2012 is scheduled to begin from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France, with a formidable roster that will also include Australian Karrie Webb, who won the 2006 edition of the tournament.
The much-hyped LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event is going to pit battle-hardened contenders against each other. However, Webb is expected to repeat her 2006 performance at Evian-les-Bains.
Webb will be one of the most experienced players in the roster, and has been performing surprisingly well on the LPGA Tour. She stunned her fans and rivals last season when she won the Evian Masters 2006.
Analysts said that despite having vast experience, it will be an uphill task for the Aussie star to outrival contenders like defending champion Ai Miyazato of Japan, Paula Creamer and Stacy Lewis.
However, given her solid profile, it is easy to predict that the 37-year-old golfer is going to give other contenders a run for their money.
Having recorded 38 victories on the LPGA Tour, Webb is regarded as the hot favourite for the coveted title. In addition to proving her mettle on the LPGA Tour, the veteran prodigy also grabbed attention on ALPGA (Australian Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, as she has grabbed eleven titles so far.
Although Webb has not been able to record any victory in the 2012 season, she performed well in the last season, as she won two tournaments.
Having been in professional golf for a long time, the Aussie golfer has earned a great reputation. In one of her interviews last year, she spoke of the compliment given by Yani Tseng, who currently ranks first in the world rankings.
When told that Tseng likes to copy her style, Webb said that she is proud of herself. “Well that is obviously a nice compliment. It makes me feel old too, because she was probably about eight when she first started watching me. Yani is a lovely girl and a very calm kid and its nice to hear that she has learnt from me I guess, you know, I hope she doesn’t learn too much for my sake,” she said.
“She’s definitely going to be around for many years, and going to be quite successful I would think”.
Analysts said that it remains to be seen how the experienced star is going to face rivals in France, but she is as determined as she was a year ago.
