Karrie Webb performs well at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012
Australian Karrie Webb played well at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 as she posted an overall 272 to take the third position.
The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament was staged at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, with the participation of competent stars like Na Yeon Choi who was defending
her title, current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis of the United States and Suzann Pettersen.
Webb was confident right from the beginning of the four-day event as she got off to a fiery start by shooting a 65 in the opening round on Thursday.
Although her performance was not that good in the second round that saw her card a 71, the Aussie star put her best foot forward on the final two days, improving her position by registering
a 68 each in the third and fourth round.
South Korean Inbee Park stole the show this year as she fired an overall 269 to take the first position. On the other hand, defending champion Na Yeon Choi finished second thanks to an overall
271.
Commentators said Webb might not have been regarded as the hot favourite contender for the prestigious tournament, but her performance in the four rounds reflected that she was willing to
prove her worth on the LPGA Tour once again.
“With the start, I had a really good front nine.  Yeah, it was just not that even bad of a swing into 11.  I thought I hit a good chip, didn't make the putt.  Hit a poor wedge shot into 12,
then hit a poor chip,” Webb said at the end of the third round that witnessed her cement her position.
“It was really bad timing in the round, sort of lost a little momentum there.  Made a birdie back on 13, so that sort of settled me down”.
Heading into the final day of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, Webb expressed her confidence in her game, saying she was ready to capitalise on her position she gained in the third round.
However, a 68 in the fourth round could not hamper Choi and Inbee Park from surging ahead.
“I feel great about it.  The putt on the last gets me that little bit closer.  Then again, it will depend on where Na Yeon finishes,” Webb said on Saturday.
