Karrie Webb ready to defend title at HSBC Women's Champions
Karrie Webb confirmed that she will be playing HSBC Women’s Champions this week. The Aussie star is the defending champion of the tournament and has vowed that she will do her best to remind spectators of her last season’s performance.
Webb, one of the most prominent female players in Australia, is expected to see a tough time when she sets foot the course of Tanah Merah Country Club, on February 23, Thursday.
Speaking to media about her plans for the Singapore event, Webb said that she is fully prepared to shine in the tournament she liked most.
She stated that she knows that winning the event will take all-out efforts but thanks to her work ethic, she can do what she plans to.
A few weeks back, Webb shared her feelings about the event, saying she had been missing Singapore after her stunning triumph.
“I am really looking forward to coming back to Singapore and playing in the HSBC Women's Champions,” she commented.
She went on, “As a professional, you always want to test yourself against the best, and from past experience the tournament in Singapore attracts one of the best fields of the year outside of the Majors”.
“I'll be training hard over Christmas to be in the best form I can for February,” she said.
The roster named for the $1.4 million event is highly competitive, as plenty of strong contenders are participating.
The current world number one Yani Tseng will be gracing the field on Thursday, with an aim to clinch another victory of his career.
Yani Tseng will surely be the hardest contender due largely to her putting expertise and work ethic.
Tseng recently defended her title at Honda LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour) and is fully fit to repeat her magic once again.
According to analysts, Singapore is perfect for the event, with comfortable winds helping players make putts with precision.
However, Webb needs to do better than average if she wants to steal the show at Tanah Merah Country Club, as defending the title among a strong field will be an uphill task.
The Aussie star is best known for 38 victories on the LPGA Tour. Turning professional 1994, Webb proved her mettle in other Tours as well. The LPGA of Japan Tour also saw Webb rack up 3 titles.
