Karrie Webb surges to 15th position in world rankings

Australian Karrie Webb has surged four spots to the 15th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, on the back of a third-place finish at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012.
Webb’s performance was better than average at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club last week, which shows that she is likely to remain in the headlines in the near future.
No matter how difficult the coming months may get for Webb,  but she has become the top Aussie golfer by improving her position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and her track record also
reflects that she still has what it takes to trouble rivals on the course.
Observers said that Webb can still display the kind of golf she did in her prime as her profile boasts 38 LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) victories, but the recent months have
seen her play less than her best.
However, the latest boost in her position is sure to keep the 37-year-old star motivated in the coming tournaments and the 2013 season.
A factor that has been troubling veterans like Webb in the recent months is that new players have captured most of the top positions in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and it has become very
difficult for them to display as good a performance as they used to a decade ago.
Turning professional in 1994, Webb is still enjoying her winning form, unlike most of the other veterans who no longer impress their fans on the course.
But Webb astonished her fans last year after she racked up titles at the HSBC Women’s Champions in February and RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup in March.
During her interview in Malaysia, she was also asked what it feels like to play among young players.
“Not surprised anymore.  I think with technology and coaching, it's so much more superior these days than when I was a young kid, I'm not surprised to see young kids ready to play.  Especially
for girls.  I think it's harder for guys, because they're not mature,” Webb said at the end of the first round at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012.
“15-year-old girls are not far from full size.  The only maturity they lack is away from the golf course.  They're still talking about the cartoons they've been watching (laughter).  Their
golf games are very mature and ready to go”.
