Karrie Webb ties for third in first round of Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012
Aussie Karrie Webb registered a 71 in the opening round of Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012, grabbing the third position along with eight other contenders.
Webb, who is one of the most experienced contenders in the roster of Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012, being played at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, United Kingdom, was more than thrilled after she got
off to a solid start in relatively better weather conditions on Thursday.
The Aussie star, however, could not play the first few holes so well, as she carded a bogey on the third hole. Webb was quick to offset the bogey impact because she drained an impressive birdie-putt on the
par-4 fourth hole.
On the back nine, Webb toughened up and avoided shooting any bogey. She shot two birdies on the last nine holes, which helped her strengthen her position on the leaderboard.
Like any other contender in the roster, the Aussie golfer also expressed her feelings about the weather conditions on Thursday, saying they were lucky because wind did not hurt the round at all.
Webb said that the match would have got a bit more challenging if the weather had taken a nasty turn — but overall — winds remained calm.
“I don't think you can ever say going around this golf course that conditions are easy, but they were definitely a lot more friendly than I think we expected.  Definitely probably the nicest day of the week
so far.  I don't know if it's meant to play like that this afternoon or not, but I'm glad to get in,” the 37-year-old shared while talking to the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour at the end of the round.
Webb boasts a solid profile on the LPGA Tour as she has grabbed 38 professional titles so far, and is seeking to win another tournament in the current season.
Although she has not been able to rack up a title since her last victory at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup in March 2011, adding a title to her profile will not be an uphill task if Webb sticks to her work
ethic.
When asked how she is capitalising on her vast experience in the ongoing major battle, the LPGA phenom said the competition is getting stiffer by the day, which means experience is not everything these days.
“I think it counts for a little bit.  But you've still got to go out there and hit the shot, and you've got to commit to the lines that you want to hit your shots on,” Webb added.
