Karrie Webb triumphs at HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore – LPGA Tour update
36-year-old Australian, Karrie Webb, fired three under par 69 in the final round to win the US $1.4 million HSBC Women’s Champions by one stroke. She posted a total aggregate of 13 under par 275 for four rounds to win the event held at Tanah Merah Golf and
Country Club in Singapore. It was the 37th Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association (LPGA) win for the Hall of famer Webb. She commented after the game, "I'm one ahead of my age, I kicked it in on the back nine. I got it done and it feels great.”
Webb further added, “I really had to stay patient today. I didn't swing it very consistently, when I did swing it well I took advantage and made some birdies. I really had to buckle down and try to get up and down on the holes that I missed greens. I am just
glad that I finished one shot ahead."
Japanese Chie Arimura was one stroke behind Webb on the second spot on the leader board with 12 under par 276 after carding one under par 71 in the final round. The 23-year-old golfer failed to win the first LPGA tournament of her career after leading the
event for the first three days. "I'm disappointed with the result, but I played a pretty good round today, so I'm happy. Karrie is really smart and very calm and really a good player," Arimura said. The world number 19, Arimura, scored four birdies and three
bogeys in the final round.
The world number one, Yani Tseng of Taiwan, was unable to win her fourth event in a row despite shooting the best round of the day at five under par 67 to post a total aggregate of 10 under par 278. "Last night, I didn't think I was going to win today, and
then after the front nine, I was thinking I can win," Tseng said. "But I just couldn't get it on the back nine."  Tseng, 22, took the top spot at the Rolex world golf rankings for women less than a couple of weeks ago after success at Honda LPGA Thailand and
two back to back victories in Australia.
South Korea’s Sun Young Yoo finished at the fourth spot after posting three under par 69 to post the total aggregate of eight under par 280. Morgan Pressel of the United States managed the fifth spot at the leader board with seven under par 281.
The winner from last year, Ai Miyazato, shared the 14th spot with Brttany Lincicome of the United States, with even par 288. The world number five, Michelle Wie of the United States, carded the worst score of her career with eight over par 296.
The tournament winner, Karrie Webb, collected the trophy and winner’s cheque of US $210,000.
