Karsten Kroon of Team Saxo Bank furious on UCI
Team Saxo Bank is going through a tough time after its star rider Alberto Contador was handed a two-year ban by CAS.
It appears as if the team’s bad run of luck is not quite over. Karsten Kroon is yet another victim after the cyclist failed to provide enough whereabouts information to the UCI.
He is also infuriated about the UCI decision to ban his team-mate Alberto Contador.
Alberto was accused of using clenbuterol at the 2010 edition of the French Grand Tour. UCI and WADA launched an appeal against the cyclist at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The case faced a lot of set-backs and the final decision was made in February 2012.
The cyclist is banned from the professional sport for a period of two years and has also been disqualified from all the victories since the Tour de France 2012.
Kroon briefed on the matter, "Listen, a month after his positive control in the Tour of 2010, Alberto was personally called by UCI President Pat McQuaid, who told him he wanted to keep that quiet. But then it was leaked by the German television.
"Eventually Contador was cleared of the charges by the Spanish cycling federation, but what does the UCI, who initially wanted to keep the whole incident quiet, do, but appeal".
Most of the points earned by the team came through the powerful legs of Alberto. His disqualification has raised suspicions about the team’s World Tour license.
Contador cannot return to professional cycling until August 2012 and will miss out on most of the big races of the season, including the Tour de France, Giro d’ Italia and the 2012 London Olympics.
Vuelta a Espana is the only major cycling race he is allowed to participate in the season.
Kroon, however, has some bigger problems as the cyclist has now missed two anti-doping tests. The cyclist briefed that the only reason behind the missing tests was the fact that he forgot to file the forms.
“I was coolly told that many athletes from other sports had also forgotten the form. But then I was told that I was the only one given a 'missed control,” he voiced.
Team Saxo Bank is already going through a tough time and UCI’s objection on Kroon will definitely make things more difficult for the Danish side.
