Karun Chandhok: Buddh International Circuit may do wonders for Formula 1 – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus reserve driver Karun Chandhok considers success of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix as a milestone which will open doors to new and better opportunities for Formula 1.
The race was held this past Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the Buddh International Circuit, in the Greater Noida area, New Delhi, India.
Until now, the race has been instrumental in attracting sponsors and generating large economic gains for the country and if things continue to move in the same direction as they are right now, it is expected that BIC will open a new era for motorsports in
the Subcontinent.
Chandhok sharing his viewpoint on the impact of the Buddh circuit on the future of Formula 1, said, “It’s going to be massive now, I think people maybe somehow underestimated the power of the Indian market before this weekend. But things will be different
from here on.”
It was amazing to see the huge turn-out of crowd at the Indian Grand Prix, which spoke volumes of the increasing popularity of this sport in a region where cricket is not just watched but literally worshipped.
The sponsors and organisers of the event made great efforts in advertising this event to the public, and putting together a show that became a truly memorable experience for Formula 1 followers.
The circuit enjoyed support from both the local and international media where the event had become a news highlight.
The event featured flashy performances by international stars at the after-party which was again a very talked-about affair in the media.
The track still needs some fine-tuning, but the minor technical glitches can be ignored as of now considering that the track needs more time to develop and improve. By next year, with more suggestions available from drivers and teams, the organisers will
be able to resolve the issues that were faced at the debut race of 2011.
Chandhok said, “I have personally, on behalf of the organisers, spoken to two or three team managers and asked them to send me a list of recommendations and suggestions for next year. I am going to ask people in the media what should be better for next year.”
We should be expecting a more exciting race next season and hopefully with more opportunities opening up, the sport should also hope to see a better future in that part of the world.
