Karun Chandhok hoping for home race seat at 2011 Indian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus driver Karun Chandhok has recently stated that he is not ruling out the probability that the team might allow him to compete at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix which is expected to take place on October 30, 2011.
Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan are the only two Indian drivers in the sport and by the looks of it, both of them are not competing as regular race drivers for their respective teams as Chandhok is a test driver for Team Lotus while Daniel Ricciardo is being
preferred over Karthikeyan on quite a few occasions.
With the inaugural Indian Grand Prix expected to take place this year, both of the drivers are hoping to take part in their home race and by the looks of it, it seems that their respective teams will allow them to take part in it in order to attract more
fans.
Chandhok did take part in one of the races of the 2011 Formula 1 season as a replacement for Jarno Trulli but still, he has not been able to prove himself at all and he is not looking as strong as the team expects him to be.
There were rumours that the team might not allow him to drive for his country but he claims that is not the case and he is not ruling out his chances of driving at his home grand prix this year.
“It is embarrassing when you don't drive for your country when your country is hosting the Grand Prix,” he said.
Chandhok used to drive for Hispania Racing Team in 2010 and both of the Indian drivers have not been able to score good results or drive for any promising team throughout their respective Formula 1 careers.
They have in fact driven for the back-running teams and not secured any points either which is quite embarrassing for their country as well.
Vijay Mallya, the team principal of Force India also stated that both of the drivers should try to step up their game and aim for higher goals now.
