Karun Chandhok is Lotus reserve driver for 2011 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 Update
Formula 1 team Lotus has recently announced that the former Hispania Racing Team driver Karun Chandhok is confirmed as their reserve driver. His first performance with Lotus is expected at the Australian Grand Prix.
The Indian driver will start his practice session on 25 March, at Albert Park. Chandhok is quite happy as he joined the Lotus team. He explained, that for quite a while, he was looking for his place in Lotus and now after a long struggle, he is confirmed
for the team.
Chandhok said, "These are very exciting times for Team Lotus and it's a real honour to be able to play a part in helping shape this team's future.”
He further commented that he observed during the pre-season tests that the team has a tremendous amount of passion and that they performed well. Lotus is working hard to get their car as competitive as possible, as the 2011 Formula 1 season is right around
the corner. Chandhok went on to say that he would try his best to help Lotus get to the top of the Formula 1 grid.
HRT brought Chandhok to the main stream of Formula 1 last year, as he made an impressive run with the team, but due to some personal issues, he decided to retire at the end of season.
Team principal, Tony Fernandes admitted that today is another positive day for Lotus, as they confirmed a talented and experienced driver into the team and he will definitely give a competitive performance over the upcoming season.
Fernandes went on to say, "Everyone in the team is excited about working with Karun, and I cannot wait to see him representing the Indian nation in our car."
The importance of the reserve driver is to test all the modifications and adjustments to collect valuable information and feedback that can be used by the main drivers and engineers. It will be interesting to see how Chandhok will perform as the reserve
driver with Lotus during the first race of the season in Australia.
