Karun Chandhok looking forward to Lotus race seat for 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Lotus test driver Karun Chandhok has said that he is looking forward to a race seat at the Hingham-based outfit for the next 2012 Formula 1 season.
Recently, Lotus confirmed that Chandhok will drive for them in the upcoming German Grand Prix in place of Jarno Trulli. He was racing in the 2010 Formula 1 season with the Hispania Racing Team and at the end of the year, he left the team due to some issues.
However, the Indian driver said that his return to racing in Nürburgring this weekend would be a good opportunity for him and for his career in Formula 1.
Chandhok told the media that he really wants to race full-time with Lotus next year.
Talking to the reporters, the 27-year-old driver said, “I think Tony [Fernandes] said he would love to have an Asian driver one day, but he's not just going to have me because of me. So it's a good chance for me to earn respect internally. I'm looking forward
to it. I know the circuit from GP2, so that's one box ticked, but there's plenty of other things to learn.”
The test driver added that he is very happy with the chance of racing with the team Lotus. He further said that he is looking forward to a successful race weekend in Germany, which will begin from Friday, July 22, 2011 in Nürburgring.
He went on to mention, “As I said, as long as people within the team know what the expectations are, it's just a good chance for me to build a foundation to present the case. That's what they want. Tony said to me that I should just show progress through
the weekend. That's what they want.”
Chandhok stated that he is aiming to beat his teammate Heikki Kovalainen and the team Lotus’ current competitors, which included Hispania Racing Team and Virgin Racing Team in the upcoming German race weekend.
Lotus’ performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season is still unsatisfactory, as the team drivers are unable to make progress during their runs.
Karun Chandhok will take part in the Nürburgring race weekend. Let’s see how he manages his race with Lotus over there.
