Karun Chandhok says he learnt a lot from Lotus debut at 2011 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus driver Karun Chandhok has said that he learnt a lot from his debut at the 2011 Formula 1 German Grand Prix held on July 24, 2011 in Nürburgring.
Chandhok added that his debut performance in the Nürburgring race weekend was far from perfect, but he can say that it was a learning experience for him.
The Indian driver took part in the German race weekend in place of Jarno Trulli. He successfully finished his Free Practice sessions on the Nürburgring grid. Chandhok started his race from the 20th place for Lotus and ended up in the same position.
The team driver stayed at the Nürburgring racetrack until the end of the German Grand Prix. At the end of the race, Chandhok was happy as he finished his debut race successfully on the grid with Lotus.
Talking to reporters, the 27-year-old driver said, “I think I need more time to get used to the tyres. When they start to go off there's very little give compared to last year's rubber, but that's all part of the learning process and I'm glad I got the car
home and did the best job I could.”
On the other hand, Lotus chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne mentioned that Chandhok really worked hard for his first race with the team and that he made progress during the German Grand Prix.
Gascoyne added, “The whole team has worked very hard to make sure we could have a two car finish, so well done to them and now we can move straight on to Hungary where the aim will be the same - progress little by little and keep moving forward.”
The team principal Tony Fernandes also appreciated Chandhok’s performance at his debut race with them. He discussed with the media that the Hingham-based outfit’s aim in Nürburgring was to bring both of their cars home. In addition, he stated that Chandhok
showed reasonable pace during the German Grand Prix.
The Hungarian Grand Prix is scheduled to be held on July 31, 2011 at the Hungaroring race circuit. Let’s see how Lotus perform over there.
