Karyn Jewell snares Women’s 400m IM gold: Day three - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Karyn Jewell of Club de Natation de Gatineau snared gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day three of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Saturday, July 7.
The 18-year-old Jewell upset her opponents with her scintillating form in the distant IM event. She remained considerably ahead of her challengers throughout the discipline and transpired on the finishing blockade for gold medal.
Her astonishing efforts placed her almost 10 metres ahead of her challengers as she touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 49.27 seconds.
The champion was followed by Stephanie Horner of Team Canada, who stayed nearly seven seconds apart and occupied second position of the discipline with an effort of 4 minutes and 56.35 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Genevieve Cantin of Rouge et Or, who stayed almost two seconds slower and claimed bronze medal of the discipline with an effort of 4 minutes and 58.09 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Eryn Weldon of Greater Ottawa Kingfish S.C., who stayed 4.58 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked a timing of 5 minutes and 02.67 seconds.
Similarly, Weldon remained 0.01 seconds ahead of Samantha Stratfod of Guelph Marlins Aquatic Club, who secured fifth fastest spot of the discipline by reporting an effort of 5 minutes and 02.68 seconds.
Stratfod was chased by Jennifer McNaughton of Hamilton Aquatic Club, who was 1.12 seconds behind and secured sixth position of the event by producing a time of 5 minutes and 03.80 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was obtained by Laura Massicotte of Cncb, who remained considerably slower from her former finisher and ended her swim in a time of 5 minutes and 06.47 seconds.
The 16-year-old Massicotte was chased by Esther Haines of Cobra Swim Club, who remained three body lengths apart and posted a time of 5 minutes and 09.17 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Jewell was extremely happy with her accomplishment in the 400m IM and said that she will try to live up to the expectations of her supporters by achieving the same at upcoming events.
