Kasey Carlson and Carl Mickelson outshine in swimming events: Day three – 2011 Texas Invitational
Kasey Carlson of USC and Carl Mickelson of Arizona met expectations of their fans by outshining in the finals of Women’s 200 yard back-stroke and Men’s 200 yard breast-stroke respectively on the third day of the 2011 Texas Invitational on Saturday, December 3rd.
The event was scheduled at the Longhorn Aquatics in University of Texas, Austin. The meet concluded after the finals of 200 yard breast-stroke and 200 yard butterfly in Men’s and Women’s category.
Carlson served notice of her incredible talent by occupying gold medal of the Women’s 200 yard breast-stroke discipline. Her astounding effort not only brought her gold medal of the event but she also qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
She clocked a wonderful timing of 2 minutes and 08.40 seconds for gold medal. Her crown winning effort was comfortably under the NCAA qualification mark of 2 minutes and 09.25 seconds. With her invincible efforts, she devastated hopes of her competitors throughout the breast-stroke discipline.
She was followed by Laura Sogar of Texas, who remained nearly two seconds slower than her on the finishing wall and clocked a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 10.16 seconds for silver medal. The third spot of the race was secured by Ashley Wanland of Wisconsin, who was just 0.04 seconds slower than Sogar and completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 10.20 seconds for bronze medal.
Next was the similar event in Men’s corner, where Mickelson proved his eligibility for the title of the event. He cemented his place for the top spot on the podium by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 53.43 seconds. His gold winning time was almost one second under the NCAA qualification time of 1 minute and 54.25 seconds.
He was trailed by his team-member, Austen Thompson, who remained 0.07 seconds slower than him and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 53.50 seconds for silver medal. Kevin Cordes of Arizona transpired as the third position holder of the event as he ended his swim in 1 minute and 54.06 seconds.
Moments later, Katinka Hosszu of USC clinched gold medal of Women’s 200 yard butterfly. Hosszu concluded her swim in a time of 1 minute and 51.03 seconds for gold medal. She was trailed by Alyssa Anderson of Arizona, who earned silver medal of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 54.82 seconds. She was followed by Yasi Jahanshahi of UCLA, who clocked a time of 1 minute and 55.84 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, the spectators acknowledged wonderful efforts of all participants in their exclusive events while the podium finishers were awarded medals after the completion of final session.
