Kasey Elswick earns honourable mention by AVCA – Volleyball news

The 20-year old Louisville native, Kasey Elswick, earned honourable mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Wednesday, December 14. She was named to the All-American team on account of her spectacular performance during the regular
season. She played as libero for the University of Tennessee and contributed to the overall performance of her team. The AVCA acknowledged her efforts and gave her recognition as the outstanding UT Martin Player.
Elswick started her volleyball career at Assumption High School in Louisville, Kentucky in 2005 and emerged as one of the best players of the school. She led the Rockets to three state championship titles, helped them with four district title crowns and
three regional championships. She remained with the Rockets up till 2009 and then joined UT Martins. Being a UT Martin Skyhawk, she further improved and enjoyed more limelight.
In her first year at UT Martin, she emerged as one of the best liberos in Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). She continued with success and settled for OVC Defence Player of the Year in 2010. She also became the only third player in Skyhawks’ history to earn
the All-OVC first team status in the same year.
Once more, the wonderful Elswick turned many heads around with her mesmerizing tactics in 2011. She managed to find a place among the 124 lucky players who were recognised by the AVCA. She was the only player to represent the OVC and is the first All-American
in Skyhawks’ history.
She averaged 6.50 digs per set in the regular season and got hold of the No. 2 position nationally. Overall, she totalled 852 points to her name and ranked atop the Ohio Valley Conference record book for the most digs in a single season. In the month of
September, 2011, she gave out her career’s best performance against the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky. She registered 46 digs in just four sets and passed her own school record of most digs in one match.
The 2011 season brought a great luck for Elswick as she won the league's Defensive Player of the Week award eight times. Now she has a total of nine weekly mentions. She is short just two more weekly mentions to tie the all-time record of 11 set by Colonels’
Brittany Nobilio from 2006-09. Elswick is improving every day and it is likely that she will soon make the All-time record.
