Kasey Kahne finishes in top-ten at Phoenix International Raceway after long time – NASCAR news
Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 was a big surprise, when Kasey Kahne ignored to get control of the excavator ready to dig the front stretch of the Phoenix International Raceway.
Phoenix International Raceway will go under some severe changes to enhance the race entertainment. Although it has never been a victory track for Kahne but still ending the race on Sunday at sixth place was more of a sort of victory.
“I'm really excited they're repaving it,” Kahne said with a smile after Sunday’s race. “I actually really like this place. I raced midgets and Silver Crown and all that stuff here and really have always liked this track. As far as Cup racing goes,
I'm looking forward to the new one.”
Kasey Kahne has previously run short of luck at Phoenix International Raceway. Kahne could never finish in top-ten places since fall of 2006. In Sunday’s race, it was hard for Kahne to run on a streak of luck when the day was holding accidents as it
seemed to be next to impossible even finishing.
“We went to Disney and tested in January and felt like we had a good test there. We pretty much came here and ran similar to how we ran at Disney,” crew chief Kenny Francis said. “This has always been a tough track for us. It just never really seemed
to suit our style.”
Kahne was in for the due effort not accepting any undue credits. The two, bad multi car pile-up, five-car accident, triggered Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards’s getting in contact on lap-59, and the other 13-car  wreckage on lap-67 was an escaped problem
for Kahne, as he came in for tyres and fuel on the first pit-stop. Trevor Bayne spun and bought up the caution which was a smooth benefit.
Kahne had the benefit of pit stop throughout the race, as the team continued work to improve the car by slipping some places down, early at race, Francis said. After qualifying third, Kahne was 18th by the time 45 laps ended. By lap-60,
he was at fifth place and after the first multi car pile-up, he remained in top-ten places for a long time in race.
The overnight downpour helped to wash the rubber off the track left by Saturday’s qualifying and Nationwide race.
