Kasey Kahne expects to participate in Saturday’s race at Richmond after knee surgery – NASCAR Update
NASCAR driver, Kasey Kahne is recovering from his right knee surgery and might participate in the Crown Royal presents the Matthew and Daniel Hansen 400 race, at Richmond International Raceway. The race will be held on April 30, 2011.
Red Bull Racing’s driver had a torn meniscus in his right knee, which he got operated on Monday, last weekend. Earlier in the off-season, both his knees got repaired from a condition known as ‘plica syndrome’, which results in building up tissues in the
knee.
Last Thursday, the No. 4 Toyota Camry driver said he is fine and recovering while updating his status on a social networking website.
Kahne, on his official profile page wrote, "It actually just about feels better now than it has the last month so yeah I will def be driving Richmond."
Red Bull team spokesman confirmed his knee surgery and also affirmed that Khane has no plan to quit Saturday’s race. Other sources also confirmed that the team has not planned for any other driver. Despite the assumptions, Khane’s participation seems unsure,
as he has been involved in two accidents in the past three races.
Khane, hoping to race this weekend wrote, “I’m just taking it easy this weekend. I had knee surgery again Monday. Re tore my meniscus. Wish I was racing sprint cars this weekend.”
The NASCAR driver has had three crashes in a total of eight races this season. His last accident was at Martinsville, in the seventh race of the season, when he was involved in a dangerous crash which left the spectators in shock.
After the accident, Kahne said, "From my hit, it was actually a lot harder than I thought I could hit at Martinsville. So, Martin's was probably even harder than that.”
The next race is at Richmond International Raceway track. The venue is one of the short tracks and Khane has a decent record racing on courses like these. The NASCAR driver also has some strong finishes at RIR in the past.
His average finish at RIR is 19, while he has also won once, along with two top-five and five top-ten finishes.
Khane is currently assigned in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series for points, which puts the no. 4 driver in the race for the championship. His best season was in 2006 with an eight place finish. He is currently at 18th place on the season standing
table, with no promising finish. He has just three top-five finishes so far, after competing in all eight races.
