Kasey Keller played his last home game for Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Jose-Earthquakes-c40434 on Saturday, October 15. The Rave Green won the game 2-1, sending the Quakes home without any points.
Keller had announced at the start of 2011 MLS season that it would be the last year of his professional career. It was the Sounders’ last home game of the season and the former Fulham custodian was given a winning farewell after a 22-year glittering career.
The team will conclude the 2011 regular season against CD http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chivas-USA-c38798 at The Home Depot Center on October 22.
Over 64,000 spectators arrived at the CenturyLink to commemorate Keller for his services in the Sounders’ roster. The management held an on-ground ceremony in his honour. When asked whether it is his final decision to retire, the 41-year-old said, “Yeah,
I’m positive.”
The shot-stopper announced his retirement last year but the Rave Green General Manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adrián-c3701 Hanauer, convinced him to play for another season. The player put a good shift in front of the net; reinforcing the defence and helping them win the third US Open
Cup in a row.
In addition, the Rave Green have also been marvellous in the 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League. They are atop Group D, one point clear of the defending CCL champions, CF Monterrey.
With the season almost over, Keller now eyes the playoffs, where the Sounders have not been effective in their 3-year MLS history. However, the team has improved exponentially and the Custodian hopes for positive results this time around.
“I’m used to a European system where the last game is the last game but now its playoffs and you don’t know when it’s going to be and let’s hope it’s in November in L.A,” Keller said.
“That’s what we’re all hoping for because I think we would sell out Home Depot Center on our own. I think our fans would fly down and be there so I’m excited for that prospect.” He concluded.
The Sounders will continue the CCL action on Tuesday, October 18, when they host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Monterrey-c39943 for the final Group D game.
