Question:

Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 7.0 Enough Protection?

I just got Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 7.0, for 3 computers in my household. I have downloaded, and updated all the databases, and have set the defaults and settings on Kaspersky. Overall, Kaspersky is easily one of the best anti-virus and internet secuirty suites in the world, and is constantly ranked in the top five.

My question is with the security suite, that comes with things such as a firewall, and anti-spyware and all that, is it enough just to have Kaspersky? Or should I download other anti-spyware programs?

I honestly, hope that the internet secuirty suite itself should be able to deal with the anti-virus and anti-spyware hassles, and that I should not bother with additional software unless there is an emergency.

Otherwise, I use separate registry cleaning, general cleaning, and defragging software, so I feel very secure.

  1. Kaspersky IS7 is enough protection IF you have it set up correctly. Make sure the firewall is properly monitoring all ports and its not set to low security. Dont install any other free AV programs unless you get infected, then use spybot S&D to scan, clean . Then use Adaware to scan & clean. Don't use any other free scanner programs. I work at a computer repair shop and you would never believe the number of c**p those free scanners install on your system. I can't wait to hear everyone argue with me but I promise you, almost every free application you find out there have malicious code with them and even though download.com tell you they are safe, they're not.

  2. Kaspersky can generally get most everything, but you should download and occasionally scan with at least one other program: I myself use SuperAntispyware free edition, which is one of the best antispyware programs out there, you shouldn't need to scan with it more than once a month, and it's a good idea to disable it's auto run through preferences as it just uses up memory.

  3. KIS should be enough it offers a lot of protection, besides KIS  usually conflicts with other security programs I found this out the hard way when I tried to install Webroot Spysweeper my computer kept freezing up  badly.

  4. If you are using Internet Explorer as your browser, you might consider adding IE-SPYAD:

"IE-SPYAD adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. Once you merge this list of sites and domains into the Registry, the web sites for these companies will not be able to use cookies, ActiveX controls, Java applets, or scripting to compromise your privacy or your PC while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser to push unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on your PC."

Basically it, immunizes, instead of removing.

Just be aware that...NO anti-virus  can ever be relied upon to give any where near 100% protection. None of them do, free or paid. Most only detect about 90 to 95% of all KNOWN viruses. When a brand new virus is released, NO signature-based anti-virus will detect it for several hours up to several days. Some never will detect a particular virus. And over 1200 new variants of viruses and other malware are created by the "black-hats" each and every day.

You should consider an anti-virus program to be your "last line of defense". Safe internet surfing and downloading practices (NO warez, NO P2P, NO Limewire, NO torrents, sorry) along with maintaining  your Windows and all your installed software with all critical updates and security patches should be your frontline defense.
