Kassim Ouma?

I saw him on friday night fights the other day and couldn't believe his story, I was wonder what all of you think about this amazing man.

Boxing is full of these great stories and unfortunately Africa is full of the sad stories of kidhnapping and internal wars. I have a friend from Chad, Africa who has come and sought political assylm as well. They can never go back or else be punished by death as a deserter. Hopefully this movie will help make a small change for the better or open more eyes to what is going on.

On another note, Edison Miranda has quite a story too where he was abandoned and survived by eating roadkill and whatever else he could find. Other boxers have earned gold medals in places like Cuba and ended up having to sell them to try and feed their families. Boxing has it's critics but it has served as an escape for many people and in free countries has taken many people from poverty to riches.

Kassim "the dream" Ouma has truely been given a taste of the American dream.

Kassim has gone threw alot. He's story is very touching and to know that he's still alive and fighting as a champion is whats most incredible about his life. He was kidnapped and force to join the national resistance army. Consequently Ouma did not see his family for five years. He made the Ugandan national boxing team and was selected to fight at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, but did not attend due to financial difficulties. He's story is full of Pride. He's Dad was beaten to death and only 4 of his 7 brothers are still alive. Ouma decided to stay in the USA to undertake a career as a professional boxer to support his family in Uganda. Ouma later won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Junior Middleweight world title. The heart of a Champion, and a Home Town Hero is what best descibes Ouma.
