The Hungarian German pair of Katalin Marosi and Kathrin Worle stunned 4thseeded Polish pair of Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska in a three set thriller on Wednesday. They registered a 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory over the
Polish duo to advance into the semis of the 2011 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
The winning combination of Marosi and Worle entered this tournament confidently and trashed Czech Croat team of Hana Birnerova and Teodora Mircic in straight sets in the first round to reach this spot. In this match at Porsche
Arena, they bounced back from a set down to win against the Polish in just seventy minutes.
In the opening set, the Polish girls showed top form and converted both opportunities to their advantage to earn a breadstick victory. They had a much better first serve share of 67 percent as compared to their opponent’s 47 percent
and registered an impressive 75 percent win on it. Jans and Rosolska also saved the only breakpoint they faced and prevailed.
The furious Hungarian German team roared back in the second set as they earned a spectacular 79 percent win on their lower first serve share. They held their entire serves plausibly and found four breakpoint opportunities and converted
four to their advantage to clinch the equalizer with a convincing 6-2 score line.
Marosi and Worle kept their momentum rolling in the super tie-breaker where they produced a much better first serve share of 67 percent as opposed to Polish seeds’ 44 percent and they registered an awesome 67 percent on it as well.
They clinched with a 10-8 score line to book a spot in the semi-finals.
The seeds on the other side of net displayed amazing skills in their opening match dumping Taipei and Dutch pair of Chang Kai-Chen and Michaella Krajicek in straight sets to reach this spot. They broke their unseeded rival’s serve
twice and prevailed in the opening set but they failed to keep their momentum in the remaining match and eventually exited from Stuttgart.
Marosi and Worle will next face the German tandem of Kirstina Barrois and Jasmin Wohr who reached this spot after upsetting top seeds, American Leizel Huber and Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, by 6-4, 6-4 in seventy-three
minutes.
The Russian Ukrainian pair of Vitalia Diatchenko and Mariya Koryttseva also advanced to semis later that day by overpowering Finn German team of Emma Laine and Laura Siegemund.
