Question:

Katana Cleaning?

I just got a new katana and wakizashi as a graduation gift and it came with a cleaning kit, but I don't really know how to use it. The cleaning kit came with: oil, hammer, powder ball, cloths, and a container. I've read that you wipe off the grim/oil already on the blade with rice paper, tap the blade with the powder, and then the oil.

Can I use the rice paper cloth to wipe of the oil already on the blade?

Thanks!

  1. I know nothing about a 'Katana', only that it's a lot like a sword.  I'm guessing it's a lot like a ninja sword.  hahaha.  But I have a knife collection, myself, and a machete.  I wouldn't use the hammer or the powder ball.  I would use the cloth and the oil.  Dab the cloth into the oil and just rub the sword blade with it.  I take it that this will be a display item and not something you will put to use, so i think it would be best to just wipe the blade with an oiled cloth.  It sure would make it shiny.  haha.
