Katarzyna Piter, Eleni Daniilidou advance to the second round of qualifying draw at Fes
Katarzyna Piter ousts Jessica Moore 7-6(5), 6-1
Katarzyna Piter of Poland thrashed Jessica Moore in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-1 to move to the second round of the qualifying draw at the 2011 Grand Prix. The 20-year-old took one hour and fifty five minutes to conclude the match in her favour.
In the opening set, Piter and Moore played equally well and pushed the set into a tie-breaker. Breaking each other’s serve twice in the set they levelled the score at 6-6. Piter claimed a mini-break and clinched the set with a 7-5 score line.
After taking the opening set, Piter didn’t look back and broke her opponent twice to clinch the final set with a breadstick. Piter converted 5 of 5 break points she received in the final set. She scored 95 of 174 points in total, whereas Moore lagged behind with 79. Moreover, she converted 100 percent of break points she received during the whole game and clinched the match with straight sets.
Eleni Daniilidou ousts Arina Rodionova 4-6, 6-3, 6-4
World number 168 Eleni Daniilidou of Greece defeated world number 202 Arina Rodionova of Russia in three thrilling sets in their first qualifying round match at the 2011 Grand Prix. Match being played at the clay courts of Fes, Morocco, concluded in two hours and sixteen minutes.
In the opening set, Rodionova was almost flawless in her game and broke her opponent in the third and fifth game to clinch the set with a 6-4 score line. She hammered 79 percent of her first serves and won 63 percent of points on them.
The second and the final set were completely dominated by Daniilidou as she broke her opponent’s serves twice to take the following sets with a 6-3, 6-4 score.
She won 82 percent of points off her first serves and 45 percent of points off her second. Whereas Rodionova could only manage a meager 38 percent gain on her first 67 percent serves. With a loss of three games, Daniilidou clinched the second set and pushed the match into a decider.
In the decider, Daniilidou saved 3 of 4 break points and converted 71 percent on her first serves. She scored two percent of the total points more than her opponent and took the decider with a 6-4 score line.
Daniilidou has five career titles to her name and made her most recent appearance at the 2011 Australian Open where she reached the round of 64 defeating Elena Bovina in straight sets, before losing to Anne Kremer of Luxembourg with a 6-2, 6-0 score.
Piter and Daniilidou will face each other in the next round of the qualifying draw.
