Kate Godfrey earns Women’s 400m IM gold – New Zealand SC Championships
Kate Godfrey of Neptune Swimming Club-OT earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) in 16 and over age group on opening day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on
Sunday, September 30.
Godfrey dictated terms to her opponents in the distant IM event and proved supremacy over her opponents for top position.
Her exhausting efforts remained considerably ahead of her challengers as she tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 43.88 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained almost six body lengths ahead of her following swimmer, Tabitha Baumann of North Shore Swimming-AK, who surfaced on the finishing blockade as second position holder by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 49.37 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Caroline Baddock of Laser Mt Eden Swimming Club-AK, who was 0.42 seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 49.79 seconds for third position.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Emily McGill of Capital Swim Club-WN, who stayed almost 0.80 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 50.46 seconds.
Subsequently, McGill was chased by Samantha Lucie-Smith of Capital Swim Club-WN, who stayed 3.22 seconds slower and occupied fifth position by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 53.68 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Kelly Scammell of AquaGym Swim Team-CB, who suffered a deficit of one and a half body length from her preceding swimmer and clocked an effort 4 minutes and 54.93 seconds.
Scammell was followed by Kendall Reidy of Central Hawkes Bay-HP, who stayed 0.89 seconds apart and posted an effort of 4 minutes and 55.82 seconds for seventh place.
Last spot of the event was gained by Helena Gasson of Thames-WK, who stayed 0.43 seconds behind and submitted a time of 4 minutes and 56.25 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Godfrey was pleased with her gold finish in the race and articulated that she would train hard to achieve the same at higher levels of sport.
