Katelyn Herrera earns Girls 200 yard freestyle gold medal – Swimming news
Katelyn Herrera of Kingsburg High School earned gold medal of Girls 200 yard freestyle on first day of the 2013 High School State Swimming Championships (CIF Central Division 2) on Wednesday, May 22.
Herrera stifled hopes of her opponents in the eight lap discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing end for first position. With her notable pace, she remained in comfortable lead over her challengers and hit the wall for the title.
She stayed nearly two body lengths ahead of her toughest challenger and stepped on the wall for gold medal with an effort of 1 minute and 56.96 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Sara Baldridge of Highland High School-CC, who stayed almost one and a half second seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 01.53 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Haley Baker of Hanford West High School-CC, who stayed 2.30 seconds behind and touched the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.83 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Allyson Schultz of Strathmore High School-CC, who was 1.20 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.03 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Saylene Servin of Central High School, who was 0.91 seconds apart and concluded her race in a time of 2 minutes and 05.94 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Olivia Vallejo of Strathmore High School-CC, who was a body length behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.77 seconds.
Vallejo was followed by Kaylee Gutierrez of Central High School, who clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 06.91 seconds for seventh place.,
Last position of the event was secured by Emily Phillips of Corcoran High School-CC, who finished her race in eighth place with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.50 seconds.
In addition, Herrera was overjoyed with her effort and collected medals after the race.
