Katerine Savard excels in Women’s 100m butterfly heats: Day four - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Katerine Savard of Club de natation C.S.Q. excelled in the qualification rounds of the Women’s 100m butterfly on closing day of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Sunday, July 8.
The 18-year-old Savard devastated her opponents over the finishing end and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
With her epic pace and laudable start, Savard gained a comfortable lead over her challengers and made her way to the finishing end for first position with the timing of 59.25 seconds.
Her gruelling effort was chased by Audrey Lacroix of Ppo, who stayed 1.97 seconds slower from her and made her way to the finishing blockade as second best finisher by clocking a time of 1 minute and 01.22 seconds.
Third best qualification spot of the race was secured by Samantha Cheverton of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who stayed 0.67 seconds apart and touched the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 01.89 seconds.
Cheverton was trailed by Sandrine Mainville of Ppo, who was just 0.03 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 01.92 seconds for fourth qualifying position.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Lindsay Delmar of University of Calgary Swim Club, who stayed 1.05 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 02.97 seconds for fifth position.
Delmar was chased by Elodie Delamare of Ppo, who captured sixth finest qualifying position of the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 03.20 seconds.
The 20-year-old Delamare was chased by Sherry Patel of Mississauga Aquatic Club, who remained just an inch slower from overwhelming her former finisher and made her way to the wall as seventh fastest swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 03.24 seconds.
Eighth best qualifying spot of the race was secured by Patel’s team-member, Nicolette Goncalves, who was 0.44 seconds behind and reported a time of 1 minute and 03.68 seconds.
Savard expressed contentment over her fastest qualifying effort in the discipline while these qualifying athletes will race each other in the playoff to secure top position on the victory stand.
