Katerine Savard pockets Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day one - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Katerine Savard of CSQ pocketed the crown of Women’s 100m butterfly on first day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Tuesday, March 27.
The Canadian Selection Trials for the 2012 London Olympic Games is a six-day swimming competition, which will complete their national squad for London.
Savard lived up to the expectations of her supporters as she sustained her pace in the playoff and reached the medal rostrum for gold medal. With her immaculate sprint, she crushed hopes of her challengers by winning gold medal of the event in a time of
58.45 seconds.
Her scintillating effort remained 0.41 seconds ahead of WGB’s MacKenzie Downing, who proved her audacity for silver medal of the event by hitting the wall with an effort of 58.86 seconds.
The silver medallist was traced by Caroline Kuczynski of PCSC, who stayed just 0.80 seconds behind and completed her double lap event with the timing of 59.66 seconds.
The fourth fastest spot of the discipline was occupied by Kendra Chernoff of UA, who stayed just 0.21 seconds slower from earning bronze medal of the discipline an tapped the wall with the timing of 59.87 seconds.
In the meantime, Katarina Roxon S9SB8SM9 of IWSC claimed gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly in Para S8-10 category by ending her race with an effort of 1 minute and 16.24 seconds.
Her phenomenal effort was trailed by Jenna Skieneh, who failed to sustain her top finish in the playoff and ended second by clocking a time of 1 minute and 18.31 seconds.
Skieneh was chased by B Jennett-McNeil 10910 of CNG, who ended her swim in 1 minute and 19.77 seconds to capture bronze medal of the discipline. Morgan Bird S8SB8SM8 of CASC stayed almost 1.50 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 21.11 seconds
for fourth position.
Savard expressed contentment after securing her spot in the Canadian team to London. Furthermore, the session concluded after the completion of all planned events whereas the position holders were called upon the victory stand for their unmatchable performances
at the prize distribution ceremony after the session.
