Kateryna Bondarenko dismisses Dominika Cibulkova in the 2nd round – Texas Open 2011
Kateryna Bondarenko achieved a flawless victory against Slovak Dominika Cibulkova in just 62 minutes of thrilling play at the Texas Open 2011. Ukrainian Bondarenko dulled on the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas
to score a 6-3, 6-1 victory and secured a berth in the third round.
The two had contested against each other twice prior to this event and the first time they met was in Stanford, where Cibulkova had beaten her rival in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3. The Game Makers (GM) had given yet another chance
to Bondarenko but alas, she was unable to avail the second opportunity at the US Open in 2010. They were meeting for the third time and finally Bondarenko had caught on to her opponent’s play as she won her first victory against Cibulkova.
Bondarenko got off to a strong start and she managed to target 70% of her first serves and although, she had a poor score in the second serve, she still managed to knock off her opponent by winning 65% of her total service points,
against Cibulkova, who had a poor return of 35% win of the total return points in the set.
Bondarenko had utilized her back hand and ensured to respond to all her opponent’s shots, along with, hitting well placed drop shots which enabled her to win a 54% of her total return points.
Mean while, Cibulkova had a 46% win of her total service points and was only able to break her opponent’s serve once.
By winning most of the games on her serve Bondarenko, also had a sturdier defence and managed to break her adversary thrice. She was able to win the first set by accomplishing a 59% win of her total set points.
As she powered through the first set, she set the tone for the second and was able to restrict her Ukraine rival to only a single game.
Although, the Ukrainian was unable to save her break points, she managed to capitalise on 75% of her break points won and with her strong forehand hammered her way into securing a 62% win of the total service points.
Cibulkova had an extremely poor serve and lost most of her games thus, winning only 33% of her total service points against Bondarenko, who had an exceptional return of 67% of her total return points.
The 25 year-old Ukraine had clogged both the sets in just a matter of few minutes and by achieving a 61% win of her total service points, she was able to secure a berth in the third round.
