Katharina Schiller and Jan David Schepers dominate events at German World Championship Trials: Day 3
Day three of the 2011 German World Championship Trials witnessed scintillating performances in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley, Men’s 200m IM, Men’s 100m butterfly, Women’s 200 freestyle prelims, Men’s 200m freestyle prelims and Men’s 200m back-stroke
events in Berlin, Western Germany, on June 2.
In the Women’s 400m Individual Medley event, Katharina Schiller snagged the first spot with a winning time of 4 minutes and 46.08 seconds. Meanwhile, Nina Schiffer wound up second in 4 minutes and 50.54 seconds and Theresa Michalak captured bronze in a time
of 4 minutes and 51.60 seconds.
On the other hand, the Men’s 200m Individual Medley prelim was clinched by Jan David Schepers with a sterling time of 1 minute and 59.02 seconds, while Markus Deibler hit the wall second in 2 minutes and 02.74 seconds. Dimitri Colupaev snared third spot
in a time of 2 minutes and 03.03 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Men’s 100m butterfly title was nabbed by Steffen Deibler of Germany with a winning time of 52.32 seconds and Benjamin Starke earned second place honours in 52.36 seconds. Hannes Heyl settled third in the respective meet with a time of 53.56
seconds.
Afterwards, German swimmer, Silke Lippok improved to 11th spot in the world rankings by winning the Women’s 200m freestyle prelims with a fastest time of 1 minute and 57.42 seconds. Meanwhile, Britta Steffen snared second spot with a time of 1
minute and 59.25 seconds and Annika Bruhn hit the wall third in a time of 2 minutes and 00.38 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Men’s 200m back-stroke event was won by Lebherz with a winning time of 1 minute and 58.61 seconds. The effort also improved him to 15th spot in the current international rankings of swimming.
Lucien Hasdenteufel was placed second in 2 minutes and 01.20 seconds, while Helge Meeuw rounded out the top three in the respective meet after he touched the finishing blockade and ended his swim for bronze medal with a time of 2 minutes and 02.40 seconds.
