Kathleen Baker clinches Women’s 200 yard IM gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Kathleen Baker of SwimMAC Carolina clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200 yard Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Thursday, December 6.
The 15-year-old Baker showed no mercy to her opponents in the IM discipline and surfaced on the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her commendable efforts in the race, Baker remained in a lead of half body length over her closest swimmer and surfaced on the finishing end for the title by posting a time of 1 minute and 56.53 seconds.
Baker was followed by Ella Eastin of Una SCAL-CA, who was 0.40 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 56.93 seconds.
Eastin was chased by Meaghan Raab of Hershey Aquatic, who snared third position of the discipline by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.54 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Katelyn Miller of Firestone Akron, who was almost 0.70 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end for fourth position with the timing of 1 minute and 59.27 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the discipline was obtained by Katherine Drabot of Ozaukee Aquatics, who was 0.47 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 59.74 seconds.
Drabot was chased by Ally Howe of Palo Alto Stanford, who was 0.04 seconds slower and concluded her race in sixth place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.78 seconds.
Howe remained 0.61 seconds ahead of Madisyn Cox of Lubbock Swim Club, who remained prominent for seventh position of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.39 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Kara Kopcso of Franco’s Fins-LA, who was two body lengths behind and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 02.52 seconds.
In addition, Baker was overjoyed with her top finish in the race and collected medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
