Kathleen Baker secures Women’s 200 yard backstroke gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Kathleen Baker of SwimMAC Carolina secured gold medal of the Women’s 200 yard backstroke on concluding day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
The 15-year-old Baker remained marginally ahead of her competitors in the distant backstroke discipline as she proved her mettle for the title.
With her exceptional pace in the eight-lap discipline, Baker remained only a stroke ahead of her strongest challenger as she transpired on the finishing end by producing a time of 1 minute and 54.31 seconds.
The champion was followed by Hannah Moore of Raleigh Swimming, who stayed only 0.15 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in second best place by producing an effort of 1 minute and 54.46 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Asia Seidt of Lakeside Swim Team, who was 2.57 seconds slower from Moore and stepped on the finishing end for bronze medal by producing an effort of 1 minute and 57.03 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Alexandra Malazdrewicz of Jeffco Hurricane, who stayed only 0.11 seconds slower from her former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.14 seconds.
Malazdrewicz was traced by Claire Adams of Carmel Swim Club, who suffered a loss of 0.02 seconds from her foregoing finisher and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 57.16 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Clara Smiddy of AK Sharks-FG, who was 0.81 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end by submitting a time of 1 minute and 57.97 seconds.
Smiddy was traced by Lacey Locke of Carmel Swim Club, who was 0.72 seconds slower from her former finisher and reported a time of 1 minute and 58.96 seconds for seventh place.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Hanna House of Carmel Swim Club, who was considerably slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 01.96 seconds.
Furthermore, Baker was happy with her form and received medal after the session.
