Kathleen Cook wins Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day two – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Kathleen Cook of DYNA-GA won gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Friday, July 13.
The second day of the tournament included playoffs of 200m freestyle in Women and Men’s corner, where the arena witnessed exhausting efforts of all participants in both disciplines.
The opening event of the tournament was Women’s 200m discipline, where Cook demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the four-lap discipline and proved her eligibility for the crown of the discipline.
She remained prominently ahead of her opponents throughout the discipline and made her way to the finishing blockade for the title of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.05 seconds.
Her scintillating effort remained 0.39 seconds faster from her foregoing finisher and team-member, Kylie Stewart, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 06.44 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Jackie Rudolph of Una NCAC-NC, who stayed 0.11 seconds apart and occupied bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 06.55 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth finest spot of the discipline was occupied by Bryn Handley of Lakeside-KY, who remained 0.70 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by posting a time of 2 minutes and 07.25 seconds.
Similarly, Handley remained 0.44 seconds faster from Danielle Liu of Duke Aquatics-NC, who completed her race in fifth best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 07.69 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was obtained by Daniell Jansen of RAYS-OH, who was almost full body length apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds.
Following that, Tom Luchsinger of Three Village-MR dominated the equivalent event in Men’s category. The 21-year-old Luchsinger outsmarted his opponents over the finishing blockade for gold medal as he touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 52.13
seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Pedro Oliveira of CARD-KY, who stayed 1.59 seconds apart and secured silver medal of the discipline by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 53.72 seconds.
Oliveira was chased by Brett Nagle of Una NCAC-NC, who stayed 0.78 seconds ahead of his following swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 54.50 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by John Newell of NSS-NC, who stayed almost half body length behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 55.16 seconds.
Newell was followed by Carlos Almeida of CARD-KY, who ended fifth in the event with an effort of 1 minute and 55.97 seconds.
Furthermore, Cook and Luchsinger receive huge appreciation from the audience after the session.
