Kathleen Hersey and Katie Riefenstahl impress in Women’s events – 2011 Texas Senior Circuit
Kathleen Hersey and Katie Riefenstahl impressed the arena with their scintillating performances in the Women’s events, on day three of the 2011 Texas Senior Circuit. Hersey conquered the gold medal in the 100m butterfly, while Riefenstahl claimed the title
of the Women’s 200m back-stroke meet.
In the 100m butterfly, Hersey of TXLA-ST won the gold medal of the event in brilliant fashion. Hersey was the only swimmer of the event to clock a time of 59.58 seconds for the gold medal. She was 0.97 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Kelse Amundsen,
who earned the silver medal in a time of 1 minute and 01.53 seconds. Natalie Hinds of Com-WT reached the podium for the bronze medal in 1 minute and 01.91 seconds.
Ellen Lobb and Leah Reinhardt were the fourth and fifth fastest swimmers of the event, as they posted a time of 1:02.13 and 1:02.48 minutes, respectively. Sara R Haley and Rosa Gentile completed their swims in sixth and seventh best places, with timings
of 1:02.56 and 1:02.99 minutes, respectively. Becca Tomlin ended her swim in eighth place in a time of 1 minute and 04.50 seconds.
In the 200m back-stroke, Riefenstahl, who was the second fastest swimmer of the preliminary rounds, geared up her swim in the final round to win the gold medal of the 200m event. She touched the wall in 2 minutes and 13.86 seconds for the title of the back-stroke
event. Her time was almost four seconds faster than her following swimmer, Wylie Escobedo of TXLA-ST, who followed her on the victory stand with an impressive timing of 2 minutes and 17.50 minutes for the silver medal. The 19-year-old Escobedo was 0.49 seconds
ahead of her subsequent swimmer, Cameron McHugh of KATY-GU, who touched the wall for the bronze medal with an amazing time of 2 minutes and 17.99 seconds.
The fourth fastest spot of the event was achieved by Meg A Cooke of The Woodlands-GU, who was almost four seconds slower than the bronze medallist and touched the wall in 2 minutes and 21.43 seconds. She was followed by Ali L Smith of Mustangs-NT, who remained
only 0.56 seconds behind her and posted a time of 2 minutes and 21.99 seconds for the fifth position.
Tess A Simpson of AGS-GU and Anna Mayfield of AAAA-ST followed Smith on the finishing wall as the fourth and fifth fastest swimmers, with timings of 2:22.81 and 2:23.17 seconds, respectively. Michelle Gean was the final swimmer to touch the wall, as she
clocked a time of 2 minutes and 23.84 seconds.
Furthermore, the winners received awards and accolades after the session, while arena appreciated their commendable swims in the meet.
