Kathleen Hersey of Longhorn Aquatics pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on day three of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Saturday, May 12.
The 22-year-old Hersey lived up to the expectations of her supporters by proving her eligibility for the title of the 200m event.
With her astonishing efforts, she faced no trouble in claiming gold medal of the event and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.68 seconds.
Her gruelling effort was followed by Elaine Breeden of Stanford-PC, who stayed 0.99 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing wall for silver medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 09.67 seconds.
The silver medallist remained just 0.16 seconds faster from her subsequent rival, Kimberly Vandenberg of NY Athletic Club, who proved her eligibility on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.83 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the race was secured by Caitlin Leverenz of Una CAL-PC, who remained considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and produced a time of 2 minutes and 11.22 seconds.
On the other hand, Peng Wu of Club Wolverine dominated the Men’s 200m butterfly final. With his alluring efforts, the 24-year-old Wu served notice of his talent and outshined the 14-time Olympic champion, Michael Phelps.
Wu displayed his praiseworthy efforts and submitted a time of 1 minute and 56.69 seconds for gold medal of the event.
His exhausting effort remained just 0.18 seconds faster from Phelps, who tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 56.87 seconds for silver medal.
The silver medallist was followed by Sebastien Rousseau of Gator Swim Club, who finished third in the 200m swim by posting a time of 1 minute and 57.54 seconds.
Rousseau enjoyed an advantage of almost one body length over Davis Tarwater of Swim MAC Carolina, who settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder with an effort of 1 minute and 58.39 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completing of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner.
