Kathleen Hersey wins Women’s 200m butterfly semi-finals – 2012 London Olympic Games
Kathleen Hersey of USA won the semi-finals of Women’s 200m butterfly on fourth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, July 31.
The 22-year-old Hersey remained dominant over her opponents from the start and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade for top qualification spot. She continued her stunning form throughout the discipline and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
With her epic pace, she remained a stroke ahead of her following swimmer and made her way to the finals by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 05.90 seconds.
She was followed by Jiao Liuyang of China, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from her and snared second position of the discipline by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 06.10 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Natsumi Hoshi of Japan, who suffered a loss of only 0.27 seconds from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing blockade as third fastest swimmer with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.37 seconds.
Hoshi was trailed by Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain, who remained 0.25 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with a fourth best effort of 2 minutes and 06.62 seconds.
Subsequently, Garcia was chased by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 0.20 seconds behind and entered the final round as fifth best finisher with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.82 seconds.
Sixth fastest qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Liu Zige of China, who remained only 0.17 seconds behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.99 seconds.
Zige was traced by Cammile Adams of USA, who remained 0.34 seconds away from her former finisher and snared seventh best qualifying position with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.33 seconds.
Adams was followed by Jemma Lowe of Great Britain, who was only 0.04 seconds apart and ended eighth in the discipline with an effort of 2 minutes and 07.37 seconds.
In addition, Hersey was delighted and said that she would try her best to reach the podium for gold medal.
