Kathleen Ledecky occupies Women’s 400m freestyle gold title - Speedo Junior National Championships
Kathleen Ledecky of CUBUPV occupied the gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle meet on third day of the 2011 Speedo Junior National Championships on Wednesday, August 10, in Palo Alto, California, USA.
Ledecky amazed the arena with her thrilling efforts in the eight-lap freestyle race, where she submitted a time of 4 minutes and 10.39 seconds to occupy the gold medal. She remained 11.24 seconds slower than the world record of Federica Pellegrini of Italy,
who posted a miraculous effort of 3 minutes and 59.15 seconds at the 2009 Rome World Championships. Likewise, she was 8.19 seconds behind the US mark of 4 minutes and 02.20 seconds, set by Katie Hoff of USA in 2008.
The gold medallist was chased by Megan Rankin of AZOTCA, who was 3.12 seconds behind and reported in a second fastest time of 4 minutes and 13.51 seconds. The third spot of the race was earned by Danielle Valley of SYS-FL, who remained 1.27 seconds slower
than the second position holder and posted a time of 4 minutes and 14.78 seconds for third position.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Mann of CAT-FL appeared on the finishing wall for fourth finest spot of the swim, as she was 1.58 seconds away from the third finisher and ended her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 16.36 seconds. Leah Stevens of LAK-KY was the fifth fastest
swimmer of the 400m swim, as she produced a time of 4 minutes and 17.29 seconds, which was nearly one second slower than her preceding swimmer.
Jordan Hancock of FCSTGU transpired as the sixth best swimmer of the event, as she was 1.54 seconds behind Stevens and finished her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 18.83 seconds.
In the meantime, Brooke Lorentzen of MVN-CA and Taylor Katz of SYS-FL settled as the seventh and eight finishers of the swim, with timings of 4:18.96 and 4:19.70 minutes, respectively.
The crowd was thrilled with the splendid performances of all participants, while the winners were invited to the medal rostrum after the session.
