Kathryn Johnstone secures Women’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day one – 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals
Kathryn Johnstone of Edinburgh University secured gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on day one of the 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals in Sheffield, England on Wednesday, June 20.
Johnstone remained considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the single lap breaststroke event and made her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
Her alluring efforts remained prominently ahead of her strongest challenger and she reached the finishing end with the timing of 31.69 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 0.12 seconds faster from her team-member, Andrea Strachan, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 31.81 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Corrie Scott of Edinburgh University, who was 0.28 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 32.09 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Rachel Wilson of Derwentside, who stayed 0.21 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher with an effort of 32.30 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Georgina Heyn of Ealing, who was 0.39 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with an effort of 32.69 seconds.
Heyn was chased by Laura Kinley of Io Man, who was 0.08 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 32.77 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Kerry Buchan of South Aberde, who remained only 0.04 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 32.81 seconds.
Afterwards, Buchan remained just a touch ahead of Avril Kiritschenko of Co Leeds, who was 0.12 seconds behind and posted a time of 32.93 seconds for eighth position.
Ninth spot of the event was obtained by Sarah Vasey of Derventio, who emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 33.57 seconds. Vasey was followed by Rachel Ritchie of Carnforth, who failed to surpass any of her challengers and finished tenth in the
event with the timing of 33.94 seconds.
The position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts in the 50m discipline while the championship will end on June 23 after the completion of all races.
