Kathryn Meaklim claims Women’s Guest 400m IM gold: Day one – British Gas Swimming Nationals
Kathryn Meaklim of South Africa claimed the title of Women’s Guest 400m Individual Medley (IM) on foremost day of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Nationals at the London Aquatics Centre on Saturday, March 3.
The British Gas Nationals is an eight-day swimming event that on one end is providing a chance to their national stars to confirm their spots in the national team to the upcoming home Olympic Games and on the other end, it is allowing the international swimmers
to compete with each other in Guest events.
The 22-year-old Meaklim dictated terms to her competitors and tapped the finishing end for gold medal by ending her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 39.98 seconds. With her laudable efforts, she remained almost two seconds faster from her strongest competitor,
Barbora Zavadova, who reached the podium for silver medal by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 41.76 seconds.
Subsequently, Grainne Murphy of Ireland proved her mettle for the third finest spot of the swim. The 18-year-old Murphy was 3.01 seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and seized third finest spot of the event by producing an effort of 4 minutes and
44.77 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Seoyeong Kim of Korea, who stayed almost two seconds behind and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 46.56 seconds for fourth position.
Moments later, the crowd witnessed scintillating effort of Germany’s Hendrik Feldwehr, who dominated the final round of Men’s Guest 100m breaststroke. Feldwehr completed his double lap breaststroke swim in a dazzling time of 1 minute and 00.48 seconds for
gold medal.
His tremendous effort remained 1.45 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Xiayan Li of China, who earned second best spot of the event by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 01.93 seconds.
Laurent Carnol of Luxembourg was 0.62 seconds slower from Li as he surfaced on the finishing end for third position by producing an effort of 1 minute and 02.55 seconds.
Furthermore, the crowd admired aggressive swims of all international swimmers while the podium finishers are awarded medals for their undisputed efforts after the session.
