Kathryn Meaklim pockets Women’s 200m IM gold: Day four - South African LC Nationals
Kathryn Meaklim of KZNA-KZ pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on fourth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Thursday, April 19.
The 22-year-old Meaklim showered her expertise in the four-lap IM discipline and stepped on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With her phenomenal efforts, she remained in a comfortable lead over her challengers throughout the discipline and surfaced on the medal rostrum for gold medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 13.64 seconds.
The 22-year-old Meaklim was chased by Jessica Pengelly of NTS-NT, who was almost four seconds slower from the champion and settled on the finishing blockade as second position holder by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.06 seconds.
The third spot of the event was secured by Rene D Warnes of KZNA-KZ, who snared bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 19.50 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Marlies Ross of NTS-NT, who stayed only 0.13 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.63 seconds for fourth position.
Ross was trailed by Bianca J Meyer, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end as fifth best finisher by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.70 seconds.
Meyer was chased by Justine Macfarlane of CGA-CG, who proved her eligibility for the sixth position of the race and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 20.04 seconds.
The seventh position of the discipline was secured by Ki McLauchlan, who remained nearly half body length slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 20.57 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by Oneida Cooper, who stayed nearly five seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and posted 2 minutes and 25.07 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship will end on April 22 after the conclusion of all planned events.
