Katich ruled out of the Test series
The Australian opener, Simon Katich has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series after he discovered an Achilles tendon problem. Katich crippled to 43 runs in the second innings of the Adelaide Test. Scans showed that the left-hander has a serious Achilles
problem.
The Australian physio, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 is hopeful that Katich would return to the national squad early next year. He also mentioned that the tendon problem is a dubious injury so one can hope for the best. Katich is 35 years old and he is nearing towards
the end of his career, so it is unfortunate for Katich to be excluded from remaining series.
"Achilles tendinopathy can be a complex injury and based on Simon's current symptoms and results of a scan undertaken last night, it is unlikely that he will be available to play any further part in this Ashes series," Kountouris said. "I believe that with
a thorough rehabilitation programme Simon will be able to return to cricket some time in the new year."
Katich will be extremely disappointed because of his injury. The left-hander is in the twilight of his career and this might be his last Ashes series. More importantly, the New South Wales player has been instrumental for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. He has fill in the role
of Justin Langer quite nicely. So his tendon injury has been extremely unfortunate for Australia as he is indispensable as a player.
Australian middle order is already struggling for form. Katich’s absence from the rest of the series will definitely hurt Australia at the top of the order. The opening batsman provides Australia with steady starts as he plays a sheet anchors role in the
Australian batting line-up.
Simon Katich has been a prolific run scorer for Australia at the top of the order. In recent times, the left hander has made a formidable opening partnership with Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326. As a result, the pair has been difficult to remove in the start of a Test innings.
Philip Hughes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 have been in the current Ashes squad to face England. They might be the possible replacement for Simon Katich for the third Test match. The 3rd Ashes test will be played on W.A.C.A. Perth and kick starts on December
16. Hughes. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 opener has a greater chance to replace Katich, because Khawaja is a middle order batsman.
