Katie Compton unstoppable at the 2012 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup #3
American cyclist Katie Compton showed her brilliance during the third round of the 2012 UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup and marked a splendid victory at the race.
The cyclist was literally flying at the sandy course of Koksijde and even the likes of Nikki Harris had no answers to her marvellous form.
"It's looking good for the World Cup after this win. I love this course. There's not a lot of place to recover," Compton cited.
"I got off to a good start and a smooth beginning of my race. Today I didn't have the technical skills for the sand so I muscled through it".
The USA Cyclocross National Championship took a total time of 44 minutes and 10 seconds to occupy the top podium position, overcoming the British cyclist Nikki Harris of Team Young Telenet-Fidea with a huge margin of 1 minute and 27 seconds.
"I tried to stay with her but with five laps to go I didn't want to blow up," Harris said.
"I was happy to be on my own, actually, as I could choose my own lines.  I hoped she would run out of gas and I rode my own pace".
Sanne Cant of Team  Veldritacademie Enertherm – BKCP finished further 29 seconds behind at the third position with Lucie Chainel-Lefevre of Team BH-SR Suntour-Peisey Vallandry and Helen Wyman of Team Kona Factory securing the fourth and the fifth spots.
Sanne van Paassen was at the second position after World Cup second round standings, but her sixth place finish during the recent event where she finished 2 minute and 33 seconds behind the race leader has trimmed down her chances of an overall dominance.
Compton leads the first overall position at the World Cup standings after three rounds with total number of 170 points.
Sanne van Paassen of Team Rabobank, Nikki Harris of Team Young Telenet-Fidea and Helen Wyman of Team Kona Factory occupying the second, third and fourth position in the respective order with an equal number of 130 points each.
Sanne Cant (113 points), Jasmin Achermann (86 points), Lucie Chainel-Lefevre (82 points), Pavla Havlikova (72 points), Christel Ferrier-Bruneau (69 points) and Gabriella Day (68 points) occupied the next six positions in the respective order.
