Katie Douglas lifts Indiana Fever over Tulsa Shock 82-74: WNBA Recap Part-1
Katie Douglas finished with a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds as the Indiana Fever beat the slumping Tulsa Shock 82-74 on Tuesday night at Conseco Fieldhouse in front of 6,024 basketball fans.
It was a night of records for the veteran shooting guard. Katie slipped in 6-for-9 from the three point range, marking the second time she has tied the franchise record this season. In addition to that, the veteran also became
the first player in the history of Women National Basketball Association (WNBA) with at least 500 career three-pointers.
Douglas, who is averaging 21.3 points and 5.5 rebounds this season said after the game, "My thing is, with this team, I just need to be consistent and steady for them." "I need to put them in a position, as one of the leaders on
this team, for us to win."
Indiana centre Jessica Davenport came off the bench with 14 points, scoring 10 of them in the fourth quarter, and grabbed seven rebounds while Briann January scored 12 points and grabbed a game high 10 assists. Erin Phillips also
ended the night with 10 points for Indiana.
Ivory Latta once again led Tulsa with 19 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the losing effort. However, the 26-year-old was not impressive from the field as she went just 7-for-17.
Jennifer Lacy played well and contributed 14 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field, and six rebounds while Kayla Pedersen ended with 13 points and seven rebounds in the fifth consecutive defeat for the Shock.
Guard Andrea Riley had 10 points while Tiffany Jackson pulled down a game highest 11 rebounds in the defeat.
Tulsa played the game in the absence of centre Elizabeth Cambage, who is under day-to-day observation because of an injury. The 19-year-old unconsciously received a hard punch on her face from her own teammate during the fourth
quarter of the Tulsa’s 90-79 defeat to Connecticut Sun on Sunday night. The absence of 6-foot-8 Australian player was a huge loss as she had been leading Shock in points and rebounds, averaging 15.5 points and 7.8 boards per game.
Shock’s line-up consists of four rookies and two players with just one-year experience and that has shown in their performance so far. Tulsa have not been able not win even a single game so far in the season and they were playing
with only eight on the night.
Shock coach Nolan Richardson acknowledged it is a tough task to compete with a young roster and said, "Still seeking that first win, but seeking it with a bunch of youngsters." "We had three key possessions going down the stretch
where I thought we got into our offense too late and didn't get good shots."
