Katie Douglas stars as Indiana Fever flog Washington Mystics 83-51 – WNBA Recap
On Sunday night, Katie Douglas scored a game high 15 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Fever routed Washington Mystics 83-51 at Conseco Fieldhouse.
It was the fourth victory in the previous five games for Indiana, who are leading the Eastern Conference by two games. On the other hand, it was fifth consecutive defeat for the Mystics, who are almost at the brink of elimination
from WNBA Playoffs.
Jessica Davenport came off the bench with 14 points, shooting 5 for 10 from the field, and five rebounds while Tamika Catchings finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals in the victory.
Langhorne led the Mystics with 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals. She said after the game. “They totally outplayed us,'' ``We have lost games, but this one was bad. We need to play harder and not turn the ball over. Things
weren't pretty.'
Jasmine Thomas also tallied 11 points and grabbed three rebounds for the Mystics.
Indiana shot 40.3 percent (25 for 62) from the field, including 41.7 percent (5 for 12) from three-point range, and 90.3 percent (28 for 31) from free throw line. Washington, in comparison, shot just 35.2 percent (19 for 54) from
the floor, including 50 percent (7 for 14) beyond the arc, and a meagre 54.5 percent (6 for 11) from the line.
Fever committed just 10 turnovers as compared to 19 by the visiting team. Indiana outscored the Mystics both in fast break points 10-1 and in points in the paint 26-16. They broke through early and opened the first quarter on a
14-2 run. The game became a bit close in the ensuing passage, but Fever carried a 23-11 lead into the second period.
Indiana turned on the intensity on the D in the second quarter and limited Mystics to 12 points, stretching their lead to 39-23 at halftime. Both teams scored 19 points each in the third quarter as Fever maintained their 16-point
lead, 58-42.
Ahead by 16, Indiana completely outplayed Washington 25-9 in the fourth quarter and walked away with a 32-point victory- the second largest margin this season.
