Katie Evans pockets Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day three – YMCA National Championship
Katie Evans of Greenwich-CT pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on day three of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Wednesday, July 25.
The 15-year-old Evans served notice of her talent in the distant breaststroke discipline as she overpowered her challengers over the finishing end for fastest spot of the race.
With her relentless efforts, Evans remained in a lead of half body length over her following swimmer and secured the crown of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 36.41 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 0.51 seconds ahead of Sava Faulconer of Middle Tyger-SC, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 36.92 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Olivia Ontjes of Triangle Area-NC, who stayed 0.53 seconds apart and secured bronze medal of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 37.45 seconds.
Ontjes was chased by her teammate, Katy Williams, who suffered a loss of two body lengths from her foregoing finisher and ended fourth in the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 39.52 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Alyssa Storino of Wilton-CT, who stayed one body length behind and reported a time of 2 minutes and 40.41 seconds.
The 15-year-old Storino was chased by Seana Acker of Piedmont-VA, occupied sixth position of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 42.39 seconds.
Similarly, Acker was followed by Meriza Werenski of Gr Holyoke-MA, who stayed 0.44 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended seventh in the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 42.83 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was secured by Clair Williams of Triangle Area-NC, who remained one and a half body length behind her preceding swimmer and posted 2 minutes and 43.05 seconds.
In addition, Evans was overjoyed with her undisputed effort in the four-lap swim and articulated that she would train harder to exceed expectations of her followers at the upcoming swimming tournaments.
