Katie Holloway named Sitting Volleyball Women’s Athlete of the Year

The USA Volleyball (USAV) recently credited the outstanding players of the season with various titles and awards on account of their overall performance in the year. In this regard, the 24-year-old American sitting volleyball star, Katie Holloway, found
her name in the list of honourees. The Lake Stevens’ native displayed a stellar performance and grabbed a lot of attention in 2011. The USAV recognised her exceptional work and effort, and named her the USA Volleyball Sitting Women’s Athlete of the Year.
Achievements
The Parapan American Zonal Championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil provides the real evidence of Katie’s effort. She was part of the American National Sitting Volleyball Team and showcased extreme action during the campaign. She emerged as the Most Valuable Player
(MVP) of the tournament and also grabbed the honour of being named as the best setter. The U.S. team settled for gold at the 2011 edition of Parapan American Zonal Championship. Quite similarly, she played a vital role in leading her team to a gold-medal victory
at the 2011 ECVD Continental Cup in Yevpatoria, Ukraine. The American ladies remained undefeated at the ECVD Cup and set a record of 7-0. There she also earned the honours of MVP and best spiker.
Later in 2011, she travelled with the US team to China. Katie appeared in four exhibition matches and helped her team claim four wins over the local Shanghai club. She competed at the 2011 Colorado Crossroad in Denver as well and pulled off a great job.
She happily accepted the honour offered by USAV and expressed gratitude for the acknowledgement of her work. She said: “It means so much that USA Volleyball values the sitting program as much as they do. We all look forward to next year in London and competing
for that gold.”

Katie Holloway was born 1986 with a natural disorder of missing fibula in her right leg. By the time she reached 2 years of age, her right foot and ankle were removed. Nevertheless, she turned up as a woman with strong heart and proved herself in the race
of life. She became a sitting volleyball star and is quite successful in inspiring others.
