Katie Ledecky earns Women’s 400m freestyle title – Swimming news
Katie Ledecky of Nation’s Capital earned the title of Women’s 400m freestyle on fourth day of the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships & World Championship Trials in Indianapolis on Friday, June 28.
Ledecky was eager to dominate the playoff, as she wanted to confirm her spot in the national team to the 2013 World Championships. With her unstoppable efforts in the playoff, she faced little competition from her opponents and secured the crown.
She enjoyed a lead of 2.59 seconds over her toughest competitor and concluded her race in first place by producing a time of 4 minutes and 04.05 seconds.
The champion remained in a prominent lead over her following swimmer, Chloe Sutton of Mission Viejo Nadadores, who concluded her race in second place by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.64 seconds.
Similarly, Haley Anderson of Trojan Swim Club, who remained almost three seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall for bronze medal by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 09.60 seconds, chased Sutton.
Anderson remained 0.59 seconds ahead of Gillian Ryan of North Baltimore, who finished fourth in the race by posting a time of 4 minutes and 10.19 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team, who was 0.60 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 4 minutes and 10.79 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the discipline was obtained by Lindsay Vrooman of Indiana University, who remained half a body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 11.16 seconds.
Subsequently, Vrooman was chased by Leah Smith of Jewish Community, who finished almost a body length behind and ended her race in a time of 4 minutes and 11.96 seconds for seventh position.
Becca Mann of Clearwater Aquatics, who was prominently behind and ended her race in eighth place with the timing of 4 minutes and 14.02 seconds, secured last spot of the event.
In addition, Ledecky was delighted with her gruelling effort in the mediocre distant event and collected medal after the race.
