Katie Riefenstahl and Brendan Hansen secure titles in Austin: Day three – Texas Senior Circuit
Day three of the 2011 Texas Senior Circuit started in convincing fashion with the scintillating performances of Katie Riefenstahl and Brendan Hansen in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, July 9.
Riefenstahl won the Women’s 200m freestyle crown, while Hansen claimed the Men’s 100m breast-stroke title. Kathleen Hersey snared the Women’s 100m butterfly and CFSC’s Neil Caskey won the Men’s 100m butterfly meet.
Riefenstahl captured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle event with a winning time of 2 minutes and 01.97 seconds. Simone Manuel of FCST earned silver in a time of 2 minutes and 02.97 seconds, while Leah Gingrich settled for bronze in 2 minutes
and 03.27 seconds.
In another meet, Riefenstahl claimed the gold medal in the Women’s 200m back-stroke category with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 13.86 seconds. Wylie Escobedo of Longhorn grabbed silver in 2 minutes and 17.50 seconds, whereas, Cameron McHugh of Katy secured
the bronze medal in a time of 2 minutes and 17.99 seconds.
In the Men’s 100m breast-stroke race, Brendan Hansen of Longhorn captured the gold medal with a victorious time of 1 minute and 01.59 seconds. In the meantime, Christian Schurr snatched silver in 1 minute and 03.32 seconds, while Eric Friedland clinched the
bronze medal in a time of 1 minute and 03.62 seconds. Earlier, Hansen grabbed the Men’s 200m breast-stroke crown of the event on Friday.
Kathleen Hersey of Longhorn won the Women’s 100m butterfly meet with a triumphant time of 59.58 seconds. Her partner, Kelsey Amundsen wound up second in 1 minute and 01.53 seconds and Natalie Hinds of COM earned the third place honours in a time of 1 minute
and 01.91 seconds.
Additionally, Neil Caskey of CFSC captured the golden crown in the Men’s 100m butterfly event with a winning time of 54.71 seconds, whereas, his colleague snared the silver title in 54.72 seconds. The bronze title went to Woody Joye in 54.81 seconds.
The 2011 Texas Senior Circuit is an exciting opportunity for senior level swimmers to prepare for the upcoming FINA World Championships, in Shanghai, China, from July 16-31.
