Katie Riefenstahl and Laura Sogar earn titles in Women’s events - 2011 Texas Senior Circuit
Katie Riefenstahl and Laura Sogar won the Women’s 200m freestyle and 100m breast-stroke events respectively, on the third day of the 2011 Texas Senior Circuit. The session initiated with the finals of the 200m freestyle and the 100m breast-stroke in the
Women’s open category.
Riefenstahl of UN-ST, who entered the final of the 200m event as the fastest qualifying swimmer, improved her timing with a considerable distance of almost three seconds to win the gold medal. She posted an astounding time of 2 minutes and 01.97 seconds
to claim the title of the event. The 21-year-old Riefenstahl was followed by FSCT-GU’s Simone Manuel, who stayed only one second behind her and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 02.97 seconds for the silver medal. Leah Gingrich of UN-ST secured the bronze medal
of the four-lap swim, by touching the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 03.27 seconds.
For the fourth fastest spot, Liliana Ibanez of AGS-GU and Cameron McHugh of KATY-GU displayed a ferocious swim, where 20-year-old Ibanez succeeded in occupying the fourth best spot, with a timing of 2 minutes and 04.19 seconds. The 15-year-old McHugh completed
her swim in the fifth best timing of 2 minutes and 05.39 seconds.
They were followed by Julia Anderson of FAST-NT, who was almost a second away from her preceding swimmer and settled on the finishing wall for sixth position, with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.53 seconds. Becca C Tomlin and Ca Weickgenant were the last two
swimmers of the race, who appeared on the finishing wall for the seventh and eighth best timings of 2:06.95 and 2:08.14 minutes, respectively.
In the 100m breast-stroke meet, Sogar stunned the arena with her invincible effort of 1 minute and 10.77 seconds, which provided her with the gold medal. She was followed by Catherine Wagner of CFSC-GU, who followed her on the finishing wall for the silver
medal in a time of 1 minute and 11.88 seconds. Erica Dittmer of AGS-GU remained evident for the third spot, as she touched the wall for bronze medal in 1 minute and 12.50 seconds.
She was followed by Grace A Kittle and Marylyn Toledo of Mustangs-NT, who secured the fourth and fifth fastest spots of the race, with timings of 1:12.96 and 1:14.35 minutes, respectively. Skylar Smith and Chelsea Miller followed them on the wall for the
sixth and seventh positions in a time of 1:14.89 and 1:14.94 minutes, respectively. Madisyn Cox was the eighth swimmer to complete her two-lap race, as she posted time of 1 minute and 15.80 seconds.
The winners were awarded with podium finishes for their wonderful swims after the completion of the session.
