Beatrice Capra beats Katie Ruckert to reach the final round of qualifier – Citi Open 2011
Longing for a spot in the final round of qualifying draw, Beatrice Capra of America kept her blistering pace with a 6-2, 6-0 destruction of her compatriot Katie Ruckert in the second round of Citi Open on Sunday.
It was their second meeting with Capra now leading their head-to-head score by 2-0, here at Maryland, Washington, D.C.
Both women have enjoyed top form recently though Capra won the match, as she did not waste up any opportunity during the match. Her 28-year-old opponent appeared out of from and remained unable to meet the standards which could
help her stop the inevitable.
Capra started off great, whipping a couple of forehand winners down the line to make her existence known. Serving for the opener, Ruckert survived a lot of nervous moments to hold serve while Capra did not have any problems finding
her range on groundstrokes and looked the more quick-witted during the lengthy rallies against someone who could not justify her top billing.
Serving to level the first set at 2-all, Ruckert looked all-set to be cruising to 40-0, but from there the 28-year-old played some uncharacteristically awkward games and extinguished every hope that her fans used to have.
Capra, who had been a winner at the 2009 Williamsburg, was full of enthusiasm in winning her serve points. She won 14 of 21 first serve points while her opponent had a meagre 43 percent winning rate. Although Ruckert was bestowed
with nine break chances in the match, she failed to convert three of them while Capra converted 67 percent of them. The opening set turned out to be an easy one for Capra who beat Ruckert, reeling off four straight games.
Analyzing Capra’s plan of action, Ruckert did rectify her imperfection by cutting down a number of unforced errors but as far as the serve quality of both the women was concerned, it was held that the 19-year-old Capra had a clear
edge over her compatriot once again.
Capra had an admirable conversion rate of first serves into points, winning ten of sixteen percent in the second set while Ruckert hanged back with a huge difference of 40 percent. Winning on serve gave her confidence she needed
to wrap up the second set with a bagel win.
She now moves on into the final round of the qualifying draw where she will meet fourth-seeded Madison Brengle in an attempt to reach the main draw.
